The building is a National heritage site and was constructed in the 1890's. It was originally built by Olaf Franzen for his son in the "jonckmans huis" style and later sold to Morgan around 1910. It had a loft access and a curved verandah roof with fine fretwork detail.

Although extensively renovated and altered, including the addition of a huge deck overlooking the beautiful Knysna lagoon, it still holds some of its original Victorian charm.

Part of it's charm lies in the beautifully aged Yellow Wood and Oregon Pine dating back to the days of the original construction of the building.
